Follow the trail along the Garden’s paths through the trees and landscape which will be spectacularly lit and all aglow.

There’s something for everyone at this festive event, an illuminated trail that winds its way through Africa’s oldest surviving Botanic Garden providing a magical experience after dark and fun for all the family in a safe and secure environment.

The season of giving

Embracing the season of giving, the Durban Botanic Gardens Trust has included KZN based charities who will be involved in the event and raise funds for their causes by running the kids activity garden. All proceeds raised from this activations go  directly towards their worthy causes.

The event runs from Friday 14 December 2018 to Sunday 30 December 2018 from 18h30 until 21h30 daily. (Closed on Christmas Day)

Tickets are R50.00 per person. Children under 2 are Free.

DO I NEED TO PURCHASE TICKETS IN ADVANCE?

The Trail of Lights has proven to be so popular in the past, that tickets were sold within days of release so we definitely recommend that you purchase tickets in advance to avoid disappointment. Due to space limitations, we limit the number of attendees allowed on the trail per night. We strongly recommend that you purchase tickets in advance to be able to gain admittance to the event. We cannot guarantee admission to the event to anyone who has not purchased tickets in advance. Tickets sold at the door are limited and subject to availability.

WHERE CAN I BUY TICKETS TO THE 2018 DURBAN BOTANIC GARDENS TRAIL OF LIGHTS?

Tickets are available online at www.webtickets.co.za, or at your nearest Pick n Pay store. Limited tickets will be sold at the door on event nights however these are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

Please note that Webtickets is the ONLY official retailer of Trail of Light tickets. We cannot confirm the validity of tickets purchased via third party resellers.

MAY I USE MY TICKETS ON ANY NIGHT OF DURBAN BOTANIC GARDENS TRAIL OF LIGHTS?

No, please attend on the date you purchased the tickets for.

WHY IS THERE A LIMIT ON THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO CAN ATTEND EACH NIGHT?

We’ve placed a limit on attendance each evening to provide a better experience for guests by preventing extremely large crowds on any given night.

IS THERE PARKING?

Yes, dedicated parking is available at the Umpafa grounds at the Visitors centre entrance. There is a surcharge applicable for parking.

Please note that parking is limited and fills quickly. If you park in the surrounding neighbourhood on a side street, please be respectful of our neighbours and park legally as Durban Botanic Gardens is not responsible for parking tickets.

WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT WILL BE ACCEPTED?

Cash, debit and credit cards are accepted for ticket sales. Cash only for certain stalls

CAN I PURCHASE FOOD AT TRAIL OF LIGHTS?

Yes, there will be a food garden set up with local food vendors on site. We have a variety of stalls available. Unfortunately no picnic baskets, food or alcohol will be permitted onto the premises during the event. We do allow picnic blankets and chairs in the Lake area.

WHAT KIND OF CLOTHES SHOULD I WEAR?

Durban Botanic Gardens Trail of Light is an outdoor event. Though the path is concrete, we suggest wearing shoes with good traction. Please come prepared for the weather conditions.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO WALK AROUND THE PATH?

It takes 40-60 minutes to walk the trail excluding all the activities on offer

IS THE TRAIL UNIVERSALLY ACCESSIBLE?

Yes, the trail and surrounding event areas are wheelchair and pram accessible.

ARE PETS ALLOWED AT THE DURBAN BOTANIC GARDEN TRAIL OF LIGHTS?
Pets are not permitted Service dogs/animals are allowed.at this event.

WILL PHOTOGRAPHY BE ALLOWED?

Durban Botanic Gardens welcomes photographers who capture and film their experience on cameras and smart phones for personal use and sharing via social media #trailoflights #givingback
